About Mike

Michael Portrait

Welcome to A ‘Mike’ For Christ. I hope the name makes you grin.

My name is Michael. I am a devout Christian, an unashamed Jesus-lover. I embraced Christ as a young child and became an ardent student of the scriptures at twelve. Christ’s life has made every difference in mine, and there has been no looking back. I love the scriptures and enjoy teaching and writing about them.

I am grew up and currently live in Danville, VA, and was blessed to grow up in a Christian home. I attended college in the Midwest where I earned two degrees. Since that time, I have lived in Japan, Indianapolis, and Winston-Salem, NC. I enjoy books, writing, a growing interest in most sports, and study in all subjects.

Something interesting to know about me? Hmm…

  • Favorite sports: tennis, soccer, mixed martial arts
  • Something bizarre: I confronted my biggest fear (spiders) when I held a tarantula (didn’t help).
  • On my bucket list: chase a Midwest tornado
  • Dream job: pastor
  • Biggest accomplishment: earning a graduate degree
  • Lowest point: losing a good job and nearly everything I owned
  • My favorite scripture: Joshua 1:8
  • Who from the Bible is most influential to me? Joseph

You can find out more about me at the “Q&A” tab above and in the post “11 Questions for Michael”.

    A Servant
P.S. Next week I’ll be introducing a new blog idea and will be asking for input. I sure would like for you to chime in with what you think.

  2. Hi Michael! Can you believe this is the first time I’ve read your About page? Unreal I know. Its pretty much what I would have expected. Lol. In a good way I promise! Educated God loving christian.
BUT!! 3 things surprised me. Japan. Spiders. And Tennis!
I love tennis!! Playing and watching!
    Rafael Nadal is my boy!!

Keep teaching Michael. You have much to share and i have much to learn.

  3. Hi “Mike for Christ!” Great blog here. Sorry the train conductor gig didn’t work out, but happy about your other accomplishments. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by my blog. Look forward to what you have to say. Blessings.

  4. I really like your posts. This week’s are centered around faith, calling us to step out and act as if what we say we believe is what we truly believe. I appreciate that!

    Have a wonder-filled weekend!

  5. Not a fan of spiders? Probably don’t come down to Australia any time soon. Particularly our house! It’s mud brick and wood, in the bush. Kind of ideal arachnid habitat…

    • I absolutely hate them. I’ve heard of two deadly ones you guys have, the funnel web and the white-tailed spider. Are you afraid of them where you are? And how big do they get? I have no problem with snakes, but I cannot understand why God created eight-leg terrors like spiders.

      • Also red- backed spider. I’m pretty sure I could find one if I went up to the shed right now. And i Saw a funnel web a few weeks ago.
We’re not bothered, really. The children know not to put their hands in to potential spider homes! In our house we have daddy long legs, which are just little things and huntsmen which would be about the size of your palm, legs included.
Sorry to give you the heebie- jeebies!

  6. Mike,

It’s always great to see your comments on my posts. I see we’re kindred spirits. I share a fear of spiders with you. I also love the story of Joseph and how his dreams weren’t dead through all his trials. God was using them to get him to a place where those dreams could become a reality. He didn’t give up in a dungeon of despair where he felt forgotten and neither should we. I’m glad our paths have crossed.

    • It’s always great to see your posts, too. I wanted this blog to be purely devotional because I hoped to connect with other strong believers, like you, and share of God’s expression through them. Spiders: those miserable creatures! I will ask God why their creation when I see him. Since everything is bigger in Texas, I’m sure you have a hefty fear! For me, the story of Joseph is one of the richest in the Bible–and the way Joseph forgave! So happy to meet you, Chris!

  7. Love the title of your blog! Glad to see another blog with an inspirational focus; we surely need more of those influences in our world today. God bless you and your endeavors!
