God only loves us. The hymn “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” signals this by saying, “There is no shadow of turning with Thee.” Our Father evinces no hint or trace of dishonesty or grudge.
He is indeed dissatisfied that a sinner should remain in sin and that a believer should cling to it in some way. But his affection for all of us is our contentment and prosperity in every way. Such personality will force people to wonder, Who is this God? His profile is so different from ours and contrary to the image many hold of “God.”
Moreover, we are unlike him even in our finest moments, if only because they are limited. But let us not focus so long on God’s perfections that we lose sight of the person he is, the person that we get to acquaint and emulate and with whom each of us will speak face-to-face very soon.
If God only loves us, there is one way that we who believe benefit that is an encouragement to our faith. We gain the discretion to know what the Lord is doing at all times, even when we don’t have details. We can know that regardless of how dissatisfying or bad situations may become in our lives, God is somewhere in them (and in us) working for our betterment and growth.
